Phase 4 of the library's Reopening Plan has now been launched. Due to COVID-19, the Bob Harkins Branch (downtown) is open for limited service Monday-Friday 10 am-6 pm, Saturday 10 am-4 pm. The Nechako Branch (Hart) is open Monday-Friday 10 am-6pm.

Accessibility in Library Branches

Bob Harkins Branch (downtown) - Visitors to the Bob Harkins Branch enjoy 3 hours of free parking per day, but must enter their license plate number into the parking kiosk inside the library. For more information regarding downtown parking regulations, please visit the City of Prince George website. There are four designated accessible parking spaces available in the underground parking lot near the elevator entrance. Access the elevator to both floors from the underground parking lot. Access is also available at street level via the Civic Center rotunda elevator and ramp to the library. The public washrooms on the main floor are fully accessible. There are mobility walkers available for patron use while in the library. Please ask a staff member if you require assistance using any of our accessibility features. Nechako Branch (Hart Highway) - Located all on one level, this branch is easily accessed by wheelchair or scooter. For more information about visiting the Bob Harkins branch, view our Visual Story for the branch.

Caregivers and service animals are welcome in both branches of the library.

Outreach Services

If your organization would like an introduction to library services that might support your users, please contact the Community Outreach Librarian at or 250-563-9251 ext. 123 to discuss options. Examples include visits to provide overviews of library services, help with online resources, library tours, and more.

Home Service Program

The Home Service Program makes library materials freely available through direct home delivery. The service is offered to library card holders who find it difficult to visit the library on a regular, continuing basis. This includes people confined to their homes or care facilities due to age, illness, or disability. Seniors without transportation will also be considered. Materials available to borrow via Home Service include:

  • Books and Large Print Books
  • Audiobooks on CD
  • Magazines, Music CDs, DVDs
  • DAISY Players (Victor Stratus 4M) for those with visual or print disability*

* DAISY compatible devices and formats are available to lend to persons with a print disability, as defined by copyright law. For more information, please see the library's Self-Declaration for use of Accessible Collections.

Home Service is available to residents in The Bowl, Hart Highlands, and College Heights areas.

Delivery Dates

Volunteers visit each person every third Thursday morning between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon, year-round.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist with Home Service delivery, please download and complete the volunteer application form and visit the library to pick up a Criminal Record Check form. There are more than 20 regular and alternate volunteers who keep this program running and make a difference every week in the lives of those they visit. Accessible Collections

Online Accessible Collections: Eligibility for these two services is defined under the provisions of the Canadian Copyright Act. To self-declare your eligibility for these services, please review and fill out the Self-Declaration for use of Accessible Collections and submit it to the library

  • Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA): Eligible cardholders have access to this database of over 500,000 professionally produced titles to provide people with print disabilities with a quality library experience. Formats include DAISY audio, DAISY magazines, electronic braille, mp3, and newspapers. Request items right to your door or download directly to your device.
  • National Network for Equitable Library Services (NNELS): Prince George Public Library cardholders can access this online service that contains over 10,000 titles in DAISY format, as well as a collection of eBraille documents. A perceptual/print disability designation is required on the patron's library card (see below).

Eligibility for these two services is defined under the provisions of the Canadian Copyright Act.

To self declare your eligibility for these services, please review and fill out the Self Declaration of Perceptual Disability Eligibility Form and submit it to the library.

If you are not sure of your eligibility, please talk with a practitioner listed on the library's Competent Authority Perceptual Disability Form. All ages are eligible for this service, and some examples of eligibility include not being able to hold a print book due to a physical impairment, partial or total loss of vision, and a learning disability like dyslexia. A competent authority can review your form and determine your eligibility if you are uncertain.
