Security and Video Monitoring
The Prince George Public Library takes the safety of our staff and patrons seriously. We utilize both an in-house team of security guards, as well as a security camera system to help protect everyone who visits PGPL.
Our security guards are fully licensed by the province of British Columbia and trained to respond to the specific requirements of library safety. Their training includes de-escalation, situational awareness, and customer service. Our security personnel are not just here to respond to safety incidents, but also to help members of the public. They can often be seen greeting members of the community, answering questions, and escorting patrons to and from the parking lot.
Our security camera system is installed throughout the library to help complement our other safety measures. The purpose of the security camera system is to protect health and safety, and to assist our staff in identifying violations of our Code of Conduct that could result in suspensions of service. Access to the security camera system is restricted as outlined in the library’s Security Camera System Policy. All use of the security camera system is compliant with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. If you have any questions, please contact the Manager of Finance and Facilities.
