Accessibility in Library Branches

There are four accessible parking spaces located in the underground lot near the elevator entrance. From this level, the elevator provides access to both floors. Visitors can also enter at street level through the plaza entrance.

Fully accessible public washrooms are available on the main floor.

There are mobility walkers available for patron use while in the library. Please ask a staff member if you require assistance using any of our accessibility features.

Caregivers and service animals are welcome at all PGPL locations.

Introduction to Library Services

If your organization would like an introduction to library services that might support your members, please contact the Community Engagement Librarian (Adult) using the contact form or call 250-563-9251 ext. 206 to discuss options. 

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • PGPL staff visit your oganization to provide an overview of library services
  • Introduction to online resources like ebooks/audiobooks, online courses, and research databases
  • Guided tours of the Bob Harkins or Nechako branch

Home Service Program

The Home Service Program makes library materials freely available through direct home delivery. The service is offered to library card holders who find it difficult to visit the library on a regular, continuing basis. This includes people confined to their homes or care facilities due to age, illness, disability, or difficulty accessing transportation. Seniors without transportation will also be considered. Materials available to borrow via Home Service include:

  • Books and Large Print Books
  • Audiobooks on CD
  • Magazines and DVDs
  • DAISY Players (Victor Stratus 4M) for those with visual or print disability*

* DAISY compatible devices and formats are available to lend to persons with a print disability, as defined by copyright law. For more information, please see the library's Self-Declaration for use of Accessible Collections.

Service Areas

Home Service is available to residents in The Bowl, Hart Highlands, and College Heights areas.

Delivery Dates

Volunteers generally make deliveries each third Thursday morning of the month with the exception of stat holidays.  Specific delivery times vary depending on volunteer availability.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist with Home Service delivery, please download and complete the volunteer application form. There are more than 20 regular and alternate volunteers who keep this program running and make a difference every week in the lives of those they visit. Accessible Collections

We offer a range of accessible collections designed to support those who experience barriers reading standard print.  These collections are available at both the Bob Harkins and Nechako branches:

Accessible Online Collections

Eligibility for CELA and NNELS is defined under the provisions of the Canadian Copyright Act. To self-declare your eligibility for these services, please review and fill out the Self-Declaration for use of Accessible Collections and submit it to the library

All ages are eligible for this service, and some examples of eligibility include not being able to hold a print book due to a physical impairment, partial or total loss of vision, and a learning disability like dyslexia.

Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA): Eligible PGPL cardholders have access to this database of over 500,000 professionally produced titles to provide people with print disabilities with a quality library experience.

Formats include DAISY audio, DAISY magazines, print braille, electronic braille, mp3, and newspapers. Request items right to your door or download directly to your device.

NNELS logo

National Network for Equitable Library Services (NNELS): Eligible PGPL cardholders can access this online service that contains over 10,000 titles in DAISY format, as well as a collection of hard copy braille documents.

Transit Assistance Program

To help reduce transportation barriers, the library occasionally receives a limited supply of emergency bus passes from United Way of Northern BC.  When available, these passes are intended for urgent travel needs only.

  • Availability varies based on supply
  • Maximum of two passes per patron
