The British Columbian health care system has been shifting towards more care being given in the home and community setting, including care that would have previously needed to be given in a hospital. More patients are being referred for home care services, including patients with more complicated health care needs. This has led to the workload of home care nurses becoming busier. As changes happen at the systemic (or organizational) level in health care, this also changes the way daily work is done by home care nurses. We asked patients to participate in interviews to speak about their experiences receiving home care nursing services. We were interested to hear patient perspectives on home care nursing work, and whether the ways home care nurses do their work has an impact on the relationships between nurses and patients.
