How Our Bodies Help Us Understand Our Surroundings
It isn’t a challenge for most people to be able to name and describe the uses of the objects around us. When we see a book in front of us, we know what it is and automatically understand how it is used. What we don’t know is how this type of information is stored in our brain. One theory that tries to explain this is called "Grounded Cognition". This theory explains that information about the world is stored as experiences we have had with the world. My research uses a mind trick called the Rubber Hand Illusion, which can make people believe that rubber hand belongs to them! With this illusion we are wanting to see how our body contributes to how we see the world around us.
