Children can practice reading with help from the library's dedicated team of Teen Volunteers.
Similar to reading buddies programs found in many schools, this program pairs Little Buddies (grades K-3) with Big Buddies (teen volunteers) for a free 20-minute guided reading session. Little Buddies may choose books from the library's Easy or Junior collections, or bring a book from home, to read to their Big Buddy. Big Buddies will offer support and encouragement, and help Little Buddies with difficult passages and unfamiliar words. Adults must remain in the library while their child is in the Reading Buddies program.
Call 250-563-9251 ext. 100 or email ask@pgpl.ca to register. Drop-in spaces may be available in the event that a registered participant does not arrive for their scheduled start time.
